Çanakkale on a student budget

Çanakkale is a university town and the menus are built around that. You do not have to order the most expensive plate to leave full.

Read the grams, not the name

“Small” and “large” do not mean the same thing to everyone; if the menu gives grams, read those. The 60 g portions (half dürüm, half bread, tombik) are a snack on their own and a full meal with a soup. The 120 g portions fill you by themselves.

Sharing makes it cheaper

With a group, ordering a platter for the middle costs less than a plate each. Split between three or four, the 1.5 and 2.5 portion mixed platters bring the per-person cost below a single portion.

The same goes for lahmacun: a few in the middle, with soup and salad alongside.

Cheap but filling

Combinations that work when the budget is tight:

  • Lahmacun + ayran — fast, light, cheap.
  • Soup + tırnaklı pide — especially in winter.
  • Tombik or half-bread döner + ayran.
  • Döner over rice — meat and rice on one plate.

It is the grams. The 60 g portions are meant as a snack, the 120 g ones as a full meal. If the menu gives grams, read those rather than the name.
